Chunnel

Ready for the random fact of the day? On this day in 1990, the Chunnel made its breakthrough. The Channel Tunnel, affectionately known as the Chunnel, is the tunnel 132 feet below the English Channel that links Great Britain with Europe. For four years, about 13,000 laborers dug 95 miles of tunnels at an average depth of 150 feet below sea level. Eight million cubic meters of soil were removed at a whopping 2400 tons per hour! That is 1,333 pounds of soil per second! Though I’ve never used the Chunnel, I’m sure it is a great resource for the people that use it.
